16-bit High-Precision Hall Magnetic Encoder IC – KTH7812

Product Introduction

Industrial closed-loop control, BLDC motor drive and precision angle detection impose increasingly stringent requirements on position sensors in terms of accuracy, response speed and compatibility. Conventional magnetic encoders suffer from insufficient resolution, high latency or limited output modes, making it difficult to meet demands across diverse application scenarios.
Today we introduce KTH7812, a flagship product of Junmin Technology. It is a 16-bit high-precision low-latency Hall magnetic encoder IC integrated with multi-channel outputs including SPI, ABZ and UVW, off-axis calibration, as well as magnetic field self-check and alarm functions. Operating stably over a wide temperature range of -40°C to 125°C, it delivers an all-in-one solution for various non-contact angle measurement challenges.

Outstanding Core Performance with Superior Precision and Fast Response

✅ 16-bit ultra-high resolution with minimal measurement errorFull-range 16-bit binary absolute angle output ranging from 0 to 65535.Conversion formula: Angle (0~360°) = 16-bit raw value ÷ 65536 × 360°
Typical INL error < ±0.35°, output noise only 0.015° (1σ). It can precisely capture tiny angle variations to satisfy high-end precision positioning requirements.
✅ Ultra-low latency of 1 μs, supporting ultra-high speed up to 120,000 rpmThe chip refreshes angle data every 1 microsecond with zero response lag. Stable angle signal output is guaranteed across the full speed range of 0~120,000 rpm. Perfectly compatible with high-speed motors and rotating equipment without missed steps or angle lag.
✅ Wide voltage & wide temperature range, robust for harsh industrial environmentsDual supply voltage support: 3.3 V / 5 V, wide input voltage from 3.0 V to 5.5 V.Operating temperature: -40°C ~ 125°C; temperature drift only 0.002°/°C under high/low temperature conditions.±5 kV ESD protection (HBM model), ensuring stable and reliable performance for industrial and automotive applications.
✅ Universal magnetic field range: 30~150 mTCompatible with two mainstream magnet types: NdFeB and SmCo. Supports on-axis, off-axis and multi-pole magnetic rings. Broad magnetic field adaptability offers high tolerance for magnet selection and mechanical assembly.

Three Primary Output Modes Support Wide-Range Applications

A single chip supports three output types simultaneously: SPI absolute angle, ABZ quadrature incremental signals, and UVW three-phase commutation. No component replacement is required, and one hardware design can adapt to multiple control schemes.

1.SPI Digital Communication (Mode 3: CPOL=1, CPHA=1)

  • 4-wire SPI interface (CS/SCLK/MOSI/MISO) enables real-time reading of 16-bit absolute angle; no homing required after power-up.

  • An optional version with 4-bit CRC check is available to enhance anti-interference capability during data transmission.

  • It supports register read/write, zero-point calibration, rotation direction configuration and customized magnetic field threshold setting.

  • Embedded MTP (Multiple-Time Programmable) memory retains parameters after power loss, supporting up to 1000 programming cycles.

  • Register lock function is provided. Write access can be blocked after configuration to avoid accidental parameter modification.

2.Programmable ABZ Quadrature Pulse Output

  • Flexible resolution configuration via PPT register (0~1023), supporting up to 1024 pulses per revolution (4096 counts per revolution). Customizable resolutions such as 50-line, 256-line, 750-line and 1000-line are also available.

  • The width and phase of Z index signal are configurable. Built-in signal hysteresis improves immunity against motor noise interference.
  • Output bandwidth can be adjusted stepwise from 0.125 MHz to 16 MHz, compatible with both low-speed and high-speed equipment.

3.Programmable UVW Three-Phase Commutation Output for 1~8 Pole Pairs

Specially designed for BLDC motors. The NPP register allows configuration of 1 to 8 pole pairs, corresponding to 6~48 commutation states per revolution. It perfectly meets the commutation requirements of various servo motors, stepper motors and BLDC motors, and can replace traditional discrete Hall switches.

Considerable Practical Features Substantially Lower Overall Equipment Debugging Costs

1.Real-time Magnetic Field Strength Detection with Hardware Alarm Pins

Independent hardware alarm outputs for MGH (Magnetic Field High) and MGL (Magnetic Field Low) with customizable magnetic thresholds. The chip automatically triggers level alerts in case of magnet misalignment, abnormal air gap or high-temperature demagnetization of magnets, proactively preventing equipment jamming and positioning failure.

2.Precision Calibration Algorithm for Off-Axis MountingMost commercial Hall encoders only support on-axis installation, and their accuracy degrades drastically under offset mounting. Equipped with Xtrim/Ytrim and GAINtrim three-axis sensitivity calibration registers, KTH7812 compensates for tangential and radial magnetic field asymmetry. It maintains high precision even for side-mounted off-axis configurations, ideal for devices with limited space and eccentric installation requirements.

3.Flexible Customization of Zero Position and Rotation Direction

The 16-bit high-precision zero offset register allows setting any angle as the mechanical zero position. It supports switching between clockwise and counterclockwise angle increment modes to adapt to various motor mounting orientations without mechanical modifications during commissioning.

Available in Two Packages to Support Flexible Hardware Design & Component Selection

QFN-16L(3×3mm)

Fully functional pins are brought out, including SPI, ABZ, UVW and magnetic field alarm pins. With complete functions, the device is suitable for servo and closed-loop motor projects with sufficient PCB space and demand for multi-channel signal outputs.

SOP-8(4.9×6mm)

Compact package with only basic SPI communication retained. It features lower cost and smaller form factor, ideal for angle detection devices that only require absolute angle reading via SPI without ABZ/UVW outputs.

Mature reference circuits are provided. A 200 Ω current-limiting resistor can be connected in series with ABZ/UVW outputs; a 10 kΩ pull-up resistor is optional for SPI. Minimal peripheral components help reduce BOM cost.

05

Wide Compatibility for a Comprehensive Range of Applications

  • Motor Control: Commutation and position feedback for BLDC motors, closed-loop stepper motors and servo motors.
  • Precision Angle Measurement: Robotic joints, pan-tilt actuators and automated rotary platforms.
  • Industrial Equipment: Platform screen doors, valve angle positioning and machine tool rotary axes.
  • Automotive & Automated Equipment: Wide-temperature rotary mechanisms and high-speed rotary detection units.
